"Somewhere in the vaults of the bank of Cox and Co., at Charing Cross, there is a travel-worn and battered tin dispatch-box with my name, John H. Watson, M.D., painted upon the lid. It is crammed with papers, nearly all of which are records of cases to illustrate the curious problems which Mr. Sherlock Holmes has at various times to examine."

The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother (1975)

No, not Mycroft. It's Sigerson! This is the novelization of the 1975 film written, directed, and starring Gene Wilder.

Can the sexual insecurities of one young beauty determine the fate of England?
Of course. But how?
Elementary!
Huh? As you can see, this is no case for any ordinary detective.
This is a case for...
Sigerson Holmes?
It's Sherlock's smarter brother (believe us, he's not ordinary) up to the family snuff in a riotous case of stolen documents and stolen love where one clue doesn't necessarily lead to another–but you're too busy laughing to care!

Young Sherlock Holmes (1985)

Alan Arnold's novelization of the 1985 movie produced by Steven Spielberg and starring Nicholas Rowe as Holmes and Alan Cox as his friend and schoolmate John Watson.

On his first murder case, a brilliant schoolboy is swept into a perilous adventure!
YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES
When his friend the eccentric professor mysteriously dies, sixteen year-old Holmes suspects of play. The eager detective drags his new friend Watson through London't dark alleys and over the rooftops, braving disaster––and even death––to capture a tricky, powerful foe!

It's a shame Pocket Books didn't use the actual movie poster art (below) for the cover of their novelization. Always loved it.

A Study In Terror (1966)

One of the more novel novelizations is this adaptation the 1966 film A Study in Terror written by none other than Ellery Queen. The film starred John Neville as Holmes and Donald Houston as Dr. Watson and was released on this day in 1965.

SOLVED!
The savage killer roamed the dark streets and alleys of London. No woman was safe from his swift, gory attacks as murder followed murder. No man could stop the menace or even guess the identity of the brute called . . .

A Study in Terror (1967)

Continuing our look at the novelization of the 1966 Sherlock Holmes film A Study in Terror, here is a 1967 Lancer paperback that curiously makes no mention of the movie nor even Sherlock Holmes on the cover! This one is packaged solely as an Ellery Queen adventure. Very different from Lancer's 1966 edition.

Ellery Queen and Sherlock Holmes-Undisputed masters of analytical deduction - their talents and methods strikingly, almost uncannily, alike. Through the strange interlocking of events past and present, two celebrated detectives meet to focus their razor-sharp intellects, their brilliant powers of observation on the mystery of... Jack the Ripper. History's most depraved murderer, his victims were the whores of Whitechapel. Lurking in narrow, fog-shrouded alleys, he crept forth night after night to murder and mutilate. Eluding Scotland Yard's most heroic efforts to track him down, the Ripper continued to satisfy his unnatural appetites, unrestrained and unidentified.

Sherlock Holmes vs. Frankenstein (2015)

Another Holmes Frankenstein monster mash-up adventure, this one promising to "soon be a major motion picture." This is a novelization of an unproduced screenplay by Gautier Gazenave.

Only the most intriguing mystery could lure Sherlock Holmes from the comfort of Baler Street in the winter of 1898 ... and it came with the ghastly murder of a gravedigger in the most bizarre of circumstances. Thus it was that Holmes and Watson travelled to the tiny German village of Darmstadt to unmask a callous killer with an even more terrifying motive ... and all within the long, ominous shadow of Castle Frankenstein.

Elementary: The Ghost Line (2015)

I admit I'm not a fan of Elementary, the American version of the excellent BBC series, Sherlock, but I'm intrigued to see the series has spawned original mass market tie-in novels. This first book, The Ghost Line, was released in 2015. A second, Blood and Ink, will be released in April 2016.

Summons to a bullet-riddled body in a Hell’s Kitchen apartment marks the start of a new case for consulting detectives Sherlock Holmes and Joan Watson. The victim is a subway train driver with a hidden stash of money and a strange Colombian connection, but why would someone kill him and leave a fortune behind?
The search for the truth will lead the sleuths deep into the hidden underground tunnels beneath New York City, where answers—and more bodies—may well await them...
